Who Will Stand With You?

When it came to deciding on our wedding party, I thought it was going to be one of the toughest decisions that we would have to face at first. I know who I wanted to be my Maid of Honor, and I had assumed who my fiancé would choose as his Best Man, but I wasn’t sure how many people we should have stand up at ceremony with us and help us party at the reception. But we finally came to a decision.

First we narrowed it down to how many people we wanted to have in our wedding party (for each side). We knew we didn’t want less than 3, but thought more than 5 would be too big for our wedding. This helped us narrow it down to 4 – the perfect number for us!

Some things to consider when choosing your bridal party would be:

  • Choose people who are close to you and you enjoy being around
  • Family and close/best friends are great options
  • Choosing reliable people
  • Determine if you want the same amount of people on each side
    • One side can end up being larger than the other, and that is fine. Sometimes you can make accommodations to where one groomsman can walk down the isle with two bridesmaids for example

After sharing whom we each had as our Best Man and Maid of Honor, we started going down the line of whom we wanted as our groomsmen and bridesmaids. This actually was an easier process than I thought it would be. We literally had our bridal party decided within a day! A good thing to remember is, if that you don’t want someone to be in the bridal party, but still want them to be a part of your day, there are other options like personal attendant, guestbook attendant, and other jobs you can create for them to be involved.
