Are you over wedding planning? Consider a Pop Up Wedding

It used to be that couples who were seeking simplicity or intimacy in a wedding would elope, either to the courthouse or destinations like Las Vegas or Niagara Falls. But a new trend in the wedding industry gives couples looking to pare down the wedding experience hope with “Pop Up Weddings.”

Local photographer-turned-“junk-gypsy” Macy Krall has made it her mission to bring Pop Up Weddings to the Midwest, pairing her love of weddings with her vintage taste, and killer collection of antique wares.

Her rental business, Borrow My Vintage, brings everything you love about Pinterest-styled weddings right to your venue without the hassle of digging through tag sales and styling yourself.

We had the opportunity to catch up with Macy at the Borrow My Vintage Spring Preview at Little Lights Events in West Branch, Iowa. It featured some well-loved pieces that had us looking for reasons to party. (See more in the gallery below.)

Team Carue: What made you decide to open Borrow My Vintage?

Macy: I have a niche for vintage items and saw the need for a vintage rental company in the Iowa City area. During my photography consultations I would have brides interested in some of my home décor to use for their wedding so that is where the idea came about.

TC: When someone rents pieces for you, do you help with styling/placement?

M: Brides can hire me for styling and design packages as well as rentals. From a simple design layout to decorating the whole venue, I am happy to help with whatever is needed.

TC: Why did you decide to host a pop-up wedding event?

M: I wanted to bring something to Iowa that was different and that was also needed. Having a short engagement myself (because I was too excited to wait plus working in the wedding industry I had limited time) I saw an opportunity to be able to create an amazing wedding on short notice and without the couple having to do any plans for it which is stress-free for them.

TC: What kind of couple is best suited for this type of event?

M: Couples that love a vintage touch of décor, but we also are moving into modern rentals. [We’re including] gold items, terrariums and newer furniture items too, because I do want to be able to serve every couple.

TC: What was your inspiration for the theme of the event?

M: Our first one on June 25th is a greenery theme. I am hoping to host 4-5 Pop Ups per year at different locations so each theme will depend on location. I want to make sure they are fun but still romantic. You can see each of our inspirations for each Pop Up on our website.

TC: Do couples need to plan or bring anything for the event?

M: A Pop Up Wedding package includes the venue, a floral bouquet, a dessert bar, a sparkling bar, and a very intimate ceremony. The couple just needs to bring the paperwork and wear something cute!

TC: Are couples allowed to invite guests?

M: The couple is allowed to invite up to 20 guests.

TC: Who is catering the event?

M: We will offer a dessert bar, which will have cupcakes and cookies from a local bakery. We will also be having a popcorn area for each Pop Up Wedding we do.

TC: What is your favorite part of a wedding?

M: [As a photographer], my favorite part of a wedding is the time I get to spend with just the couple taking pictures of them. It’s a great time to get to know my couples and get to see them relaxed and having fun. Another favorite part is an intimate and personalized ceremony that always makes me cry.

TC: Are you going to hold more pop-up wedding events in the future?

M: Yes! We are hoping to have four in 2018!
